ABOUT KATARINA

Due to some incredibly good fortune, I immigrated with my family to Los Angeles, CA from Zagreb, Croatia in 1995. The war was coming to its end and we left behind a beautiful home, friends and family in pursuit of a new beginning. I had been studying Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, and Social Psychiatry in Zagreb and prepared to continue these studies in my new country.

In Los Angeles, the work I had begun in Croatia with children and families continued and the basis of my therapeutic beliefs began to form. Neglect in childhood – such as a lack of connection, warmth, a sense of belonging or loving attention – keeps showing up as repeated patterns of disconnection and disengagement in adulthood. However, I also learned that it’s possible to overcome the perception of not being enough and of feeling and running on emptiness.

I specialize in Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting (BSP) to help adults find their own sense of self-worth, overcome trauma, become more mindful and have fulfilling relationships.

Utilizing a holistic approach, I bring a blend of my experiences and engage with you in many different psychotherapeutic techniques to maximize your own inner strengths. We work to differentiate the past from the present in terms of cognition, emotions, body sensations and behaviors. Navigating life’s difficulties and finding more creative and productive solutions becomes easier as therapy progresses.

I will offer support, show genuine interest and give honest and timely productive feedback to help you see subjective experiences more objectively and take initiative in your own life. We will aim to let go of the need for perfection and strengthen your own sources of inner knowledge and wisdom.

I hope to talk to you soon.
